Jean-Philippe Rohr is a French poker player who made his first live-event cash in 2008. In the first 3 years, he cashed 20 times, made 6 final tables, won 2 events, cashed once at the WSOP Europe, and earned over $600,000.
Born on December 23, 1961 in Metz, France, Jean grew up to be an accomplished professional football (soccer) player, and was a member of the French squad that won the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. When an injury forced him to retire at age 31, Jean focused on backgammon, quickly becoming one of the best French players at the international level and was the Champion of France in 1999 and 2005.
His friend and fellow backgammon player François Tardieu introduced Jean to poker in 2007. In 2008, he made his first live-event cash when he finished 116th in the EPT $7,800 2008 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure event for $16,000. His other cashes that year were a 6th place finish for €123,000 in the €8,500 NLHE Grand Final at the Partouche Poker Tour Cannes, and finishing 10th in the €6,000 NLHE at the Master Classics of Poker Amsterdam to earn €28,140.
In 2009 Jean cashed 4 times, starting with finishing in the money at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. His next cash was at the IPT San Remo, where he finished 9th for €9,800 in the €2,000 NLHE Main Event. At the Partouche Poker Tour Cannes, he finished 33rd for €17,400 in the €7,750 NLHE Main Event, before taking 3rd in the €1,800 NLHE at the WPT Marrakech to collect €54,785.
Jean started 2010 by cashing at the WPT Amneville. He went on to cash twice at the WPT Chilipoker Marrakech Festival, finishing 16th in the WPT €5,000 NLHE Main Event for €11,116. His last cash of the year was in the Main Event at the IPT San Remo.
In 2011, Jean cashed 8 times and won twice. In April, he cashed at the Cannes Hold’em Series, and won the €500 NLHE Turbo at the Everest Poker ONE in Monte Carlo for €9,600. Less than two weeks later, he took 3rd in the €5,000 NLHE 8-Max to earn €66,000 at the EPT Grand Final Madrid. His next cash was for €40,000 which he earned by winning the €1,650 NLHE Main Event at the Joa Poker Tour Antibes.
In October, Jean made his first WSOP Europe cash in Cannes when he made the money in the €1,000 NLHE. To finish the year, he cashed in the Main Events at the WPT Amnéville, the WPT Marrakech, and finished 32nd in the €5,000 NLHE Main Event at the EPT Prague to earn €17,000.
Making his home in Vallavris, France, Jean plans to continue to play poker as a hobby. He also still enjoys playing backgammon and watching football.
