LAS VEGAS, January 3, 2024 – The Global Poker Index (GPI) have announced the champions of their Player of the Year races for the 2023 live tournament poker season …
2023 GPI PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Bin Weng had a few challengers to the 2023 GPI PoY title, but in the end, it wasn’t much of a race as Weng dominantly closed things, collecting over 5,000 GPI points to earn his first-ever PoY victory.
Weng was red-hot on the US poker circuit in 2023, earning 6 wins, 20 Top 10 finishes, and 55 total results during the year.
His wins included a pair of WPT titles – the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown in May and the WPT EveryOne for One Drop in Las Vegas in July – two other titles at Wynn Las Vegas, the WSOP Circuit Main Event ring at Horseshoe Las Vegas and a victory at the return of major tournament poker at Borgata in Atlantic City to kick off 2023.
2022 GPI PoY Stephen Song finished 43rd in this year’s race.

LAS VEGAS, February 23, 2023 – The Global Poker Index® (GPI) released its first Player of the Year rankings of the year this week as American star Jeremy Ausmus on top of the overall race, as he did to kick off the 2022 poker season.
Ausmus would end finishing third in the race, behind fellow Americans Adam Hendrix and eventual winner Stephen Song, who will be celebrated for his achievements (Song won the GPI Mid-Major PoY title as well) at the Global Poker Awards in Las Vegas, airing exclusively on PokerGO® on Friday, March 3rd at 5:30pm PT.
Back to Ausmus, who has collected nine qualifying results so far – including a win in a side event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas. Ausmus would return home from the Bahamas with four more results, including a 13th place finish in the PSPC Main Event for his best score of this young season.
The Las Vegas native has also earned scores at the PGT PokerGO Cup, the Lucky Hearts Poker Open and the PGT Mixed Games.

Ausmus holds a small lead on Tony Lin. Meanwhile, Justin Saliba and Anthony Hu, who have both enjoyed hot starts to the season, sit in third and fourth place respectively, with Jesse Lonis in fifth. The first non-American to appear in the PoY rankings is the UK’s Andrew Wilson, who sits sixth.
Ticherfatine leads Female PoY
WSOP International Circuit Dakar Main Event winner Cecile Ticherfatine leads the way in the Female PoY race. The French native has already collected two victories and two other Top 3 finishes so far this season.
Ticherfatine holds a minuscule 9-point lead over a very familiar face, 2021 GPI Female Player of the Year Nadya Magnus while former back-to-back-to-back Female PoY, Kristen Foxen, also sits in the Top 5.
2022 Female PoY runner-up Angela Jordison is currently in seventh position.
Whittington the player to beat for Mid-Major title
American Blake Whittington sits atop the GPI Mid-Major race. Whittington has also collected 12 scores, one away from the 13 max, which means that all new results will have to hold better scores than his current 13th score in order to add points to his total overall score once he earns his next qualifying result.
Whittington leads Australian Daniel Noja, American Jonathan Moschel and French player Idir Haiche in the Top 4. Las Vegas grinder Eric “Basebaldy” Baldwin rounds-out the Top 5.

2022 GPI PLAYERS OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED

›› 79 players named National PoYs
LAS VEGAS, January 4, 2022 – The Global Poker Index (GPI) have released the names of all of their Player of the Year race winners from the 2022 poker season.
Stephen Song was the last player standing in one of the most entertaining GPI Player of the Year races in history. Several players would hold on to the #1 PoY rank throughout the year but Song waited until the very end to take the lead, winning the WPT Prime Championship at Wynn Las Vegas in one of the final tournaments of the season, taking the lead from his friend, Adam Hendrix, who was at or near the top of the table for most of the season.
Collecting a total of 3,543.72 GPI PoY points, Song finished just 17.24 points ahead of Hendrix in the race and just 46.25 points ahead of Jeremy Ausmus, who kicked off 2022 grabbing the early lead in the PoY race.
2022 GPI PoY Top 5:
- Stephen Song (USA)
- Adam Hendrix (USA)
- Jeremy Ausmus (USA)
- Chad Eveslage (USA)
- Farid Jattin (COL)
Cherish Andrews arrived at the Wynn for the WPT World Championship Festival trailing Angela Jordison in the race for the GPI Female Player of the Year title. She would leave Las Vegas leaving no doubt she should win the race following an incredible performance in three WPT events during her stay, including a victory and a trio of Top 6 finishes.
Three-time (and back-to-back-to-back) GPI Female PoY Kristen Bicknell would finish third in the race while reigning Female PoY Nadya Magnus finished a very respectable 14th on a reduced schedule.
2022 GPI Female PoY Top 5:

Amazingly, Song also wins the Mid-Major Player of the Year race, recognizing players involved in events with buy-ins up to $2,500 USD, becoming the very first person to ever win a pair of GPI PoY title in one year.
Song had such an impressively strong year overall, excelling in events with wide-ranging buy-ins.
The aforementioned Jordison also battled hard in this race, holding the lead heading into December, dropping to 3rd and finally ending up in the runner-up position.
Inaugural GPI Mid-Major PoY winner David Mzareulov finished 142nd in this year’s race.
2022 GPI Mid-Major PoY Top 5:
