Adelson’s Spanish Inquisition, Skrill to Sponsor EPT

Adelson’s EuroVegas Stipulation

Sheldon Adelson has made no secret of his dislike for the online poker industry in the US, but in a recent meeting with Spain’s Prime Minister it seems he’s also trying to leverage his position to halt the industry in Europe.

Since outlining plans for a EuroVegas-style casino complex in Spain, Adelson has been pushing Mariano Rajoy to relax the smoking laws so that patrons of his new property can smoke inside.

As yet the process is still ongoing but according to a recent message from Adelson’s legal team, they are also pushing for a crackdown on the country’s online gambling laws before they move forward.

According to reports, Adelson has allegedly stipulated that they need “more satisfaction on online gaming“, specifically, that they “need the [online gambling] bill repealed” if they are going to complete the project.

Such an ultimatum will certainly put Spanish officials in a tough position as it’s expected the new casino complex will generate millions of Euro in revenue for the economy and create hundreds of new jobs.

As yet there has been no further news on the issue, however, it seems that Adelson is intent on stamping out the online poker industry in any way he can.

EPT’s New Skrill Edge

Payment processor Skrill has just been announced as an official partner of the EPT.

Known as one of Europe’s largest virtual wallets, Skrill will once again work alongside the EPT and continue to push their brand to a global audience.

As part of the sponsorship deal Skrill will brand each stop of the tour during Season 10 and provide exclusive offers to players during the tournaments.

Commenting on the renewed partnership, Skrill’s Joe Hall stated that they are “looking forward to attending events and interacting directly with players.”
