Alpha8 Adds 2 Stops, Battle of Malta & WSOPC Cincinnati Begin

WPT Alpha8 Adds Two Events

The World Poker Tour announced the next two stops on the new Alpha8 tour.

The first event will be a £100,000 buy-in event in London at the Palm Beach Casino Mayfair, which will begin on October 28. The two-day tournament will allow players to reenter.

The second new event on the schedule will be in Johannesburg, starting February 14, 2014. The Emperors Palace Hotel & Casino Resort in South Africa will host the reentry tournament that is scheduled for two days. Players who pre-register will receive VIP ground transportation from Tambo International Airport, as well as a week’s complimentary stay at the Doreale Grande Hotel, a dedicated VIP host, and a two-night safari.

Both events will be filmed for broadcast on FOX Sports 1.

Battle of Malta Begins

The first day of the Battle of Malta got underway at the Portomaso Casino. The €550 buy-in NLHE tournament had a €200K guarantee for the Main Event, which began on September 26.

Day 1A kicked off the action with a strong field, with registration showing more than 350 players by the end of Level 2. The day actually ended with 417 players in action, which already exceeded the 349-player total from last year’s event. There were 110 survivors from the action, with Dario Amato in the chip lead with 247,400 chips.

WSOP Circuit Cincinnati Prelims Underway

The World Series of Poker Circuit headed to the Horseshoe Cincinnati on September 19 for its Ohio stop on the tour. Action continues until the wrap of the Main Event on September 30.

Event 1 was a $365 NLHE event that drew 308 entries for a prize pool of $92,400. Caufman Talley won that tournament for $21,716 and a WSOPC gold ring.

Event 2 was a $365 NLHE Reentry party that ended with 1,106 entries, a $331,800 prize pool, and winner Jason Hill taking home $60,554.

Samuel Panzica won Event 3’s Omaha-8 festivities for more than $12K, Chris Parsons took down Event 4’s NLHE title and more than $15K, and Darren Rabinowitz captured nearly $20K for winning Event 6, the NLHE 6-Handed tournament.
