Boeree, Hansen and Adeniya All Fall in Galway

Chips Fly in UKIPT Galway’s Main Event

UKIPT Galway‘s main attraction kicked off yesterday with the opening flight of its €1,000,000 guaranteed event.

As predicted a number of pros anted-up with the masses, however, as the 231 starters gradually dissipated, the likes of Gus Hansen, Liv Boeree and Martins Adeniya all found the pace too taxing.

Indeed, as the day wore on none of professional trio could keep hold of their stacks and make it through to the second session.

While Gus and Martins fell midway through the day, Liv was the last of the trio to exit the tournament area when a mistimed 4-bet cost the PokerStars pro her stack. After moving all-in with A-T, Liv was left needing a helping hand against her opponent’s A-J.

However, as the board ran out and no miracles transpired the circuit regular was left with nothing else to do but head for the rail and drown her sorrows with a few pints of Guinness.

One player who did enjoy Day 1A was Alan Gold. The online qualifier enjoyed a surge of momentum towards the end of the session and managed to parlay his chips into a table-topping stack.

Having bagged 272,700 chips, Gold finished the day ahead of such grinders as Paul Delaney (103,000), Max Silver (91,700), Jason O’Toole (77,200) and Keith Hawkins (63,100).

Today’s second starting session kicked off earlier and to help allay fears the event might fall short of its guarantee (something that would be a first on the UKIPT), registration was extended to the end of level 6.

At the time of writing more than 600 players had taken to the felt, pushing the overall total to more than 800, keeping hopes alive that an overlay will be avoided.

On display in the early offing was the likes of Jake Cody, Viktor Blom and Barny Boatman, but leading the way at the time of writing was Sebastian Osorio V Lev.

Day 1B will come to a conclusion later today before the official Day 2 begins tomorrow and you can catch live updates by clicking here.
