EPT Berlin: Draft Philipp Gruissem

FPM logoNOTE: This has been posted prior to the end of Day 1B play.  Please be sure to check the end-of-day chip counts to see if this player had made it to Day 2 play.

It’s plain and simple, German legend Philipp Gruissem (GPI#3) offers you the best value out of most any player on the live tournament circuit.

Pickup Gruissem and get a two-for-one special.  Should the man known as “Philbort” not earn you any FPM Points in the EPT Berlin Main Event, no sweat, you know the man is going to win the Berlin High Roller event days later.

As was the case at EPT London, EPT Berlin will both the Main and High Roller events qualify for FPM Points – so, picking some players once (without having to remove them and pay your 5% FPM agent fee) for both events makes total sense.

Who better than the man who seems to win every single High Roller he plays in to have on your squad this week in Berlin?  Gruissem’s most recent conquest came in Australia where he won the 50K High Roller non-bracelet event at the inaugural World Series of Poker Asia-Paficic a little over a week ago, his third Top 5 finish in 2013.

Earlier in the year, Gruissem finished second in the 25K Challenge at the Aussie Millions and fifth in the 100K Super High Roller event at the PCA in the Bahamas.

People started hearing of Gruissem when he went deep in the 2011 WSOP Main Event, finishing in 28th position.  He then rose to poker stardom winning back-to-back High Roller events on the European Poker Tour, in Barcelona and then  in London.

Drafting Gruissem will require a huge commitment as he currently has the highest FPM Market Price attached to his name at 513,750.  Now considering that he should be a lock for points (remember, nothing is a lock in poker!) in at least one of the next two events, that high price tag is justified.

Why should I add Gruissem to my team?

  • Will likely contend in one of next two events
  • Big High Roller wins on tour
  • Strong player without a major tour title
