EPT San Remo by PokerStars.com – Day 1B: Post-Dinner Break Update
Level five has just come to a close and today’s flight is down to 380 players. After an initial 470 took to the felt at 14:00 this afternoon, almost 100 players have hit the rail.
Among those skidding across the felt and out of the EPT tournament area are: Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Faraz Jaka, Antonio Esfandiari and Mclean Karr. It’s not just those out of the tournament who’ve had a rough time today, Daniel Negreanu and Shaun Deeb are also feeling the force of negative variance.
While both are still in the tournament, they each enter level six with under 20,000. Although the blinds will only be 200/400/50 when the tournament director announces the change, neither player can afford to make any more mistakes for the rest of the day.
In stark contrast to those who have fallen, Justin Bonomo, Chris Moneymaker and Pius Heinz have all flourished in the mixed ability field. Indeed, it’s Bonomo who has profited from the scores of local players out to take down one of the many pros on display.
At the time of writing Justin has 125,000 chips, which is 14,000 less than the current chips leader, Stefano Giarrusso.
While the main event continues to rumble on, many of the tournament’s casualties have joined the €2,200 turbo tournament. Among those taking a second bite of bite of the EPT cherry are David Vamplew and Harrison Gimbel.
