Following another bumper turnout, this year’s champion will take home a bundle of cash worth €800,000; a figure which should help them climb at least a few places on the GPI POY Rankings. In addition to attracting a total of 797 players, this year’s tournament comprised of a truly global field with 12% of the total runners making the long trip from North America.

As expected, the Italians make up the bulk of the field with a saturation rate of 27%. With such a stranglehold over the field, a rush of natives at the final table could help their position on the GPI’s National Rankings.

Currently sitting in 7th place with 11 players in the GPI Top 300, an overall winner from Italy could certainly help them close the gap on their nearest rivals Germany, who have 14 players in the elite 300.

At the time of writing 333 players remain in the tournament and Matt Salsberg, Erion Islamay and Sam Trickett are nestled within the top three spots. With play scheduled to end around midnight tonight, we expect a host of big names to rise and fall as the day progresses.
