EPT San Remo – Day 2: Dinner Break Update

timexFalling like flies would be the expression of the day in San Remo as we’ve waved goodbye to almost 200 players. Among those who’ve had their hopes dashed are Denmark’s fifth ranked player, according to the Global Poker Index, Theo Jorgensen, Andy Frankenberger and Mike McDonald. Indeed, Mike’s exit now means he’ll have to wait for another opportunity to improve on his 12th place ranking on the GPI’s Top 300.

As those who’ve departed search for more action, the reaming 236 players are now enjoying a dinner break before embarking on the home straight towards Day 3. Szabolcs Mayer is likely to be the player who enjoys his meal the most as he’s currently perched atop of the chip counts with 352,000. julius

The Hungarian player won’t be able to indulge himself too much on the break though as a lethargic restart could spell disaster with the likes of WSOP Main Event Champion Pius Heinz, Kyle Julius and Sam Trickett all in the top ten.

As the main event gradually whittles down more and more hopefuls the 2,200 re-entry event is just starting to bloom. Despite having to play three-handed for a few rounds, more than 150 players have now joined the side action. Indeed, after talking with the tournament director he indicated that he expects that number to reach somewhere between 450 and 600.
