EPT San Remo – Day 3: Game, Set but Not the Match for Trickett

Despite an internet outage at the start of EPT San Remo’s Day 3 the tournament proceeded as scheduled but one player who won’t be seeing out the rest of the day is Sam Trickett.

Sam suffered a series of crushing pots at the tail end of Day 2 which meant he was forced into shove or fold mode at the start of today’s session.

Having notched up $17,470,281 in tournaments and millions more in cash games, there was little chance of Sam sitting tight and hanging on for a min cash of €8,000. Within 10 minutes of the start he made his first all-in and after a few moments of hesitation from the rest of the table they eventually folded.

Fast-forward a few hands and Sam was all-in again when the action folded to him on the button. 31,000 was the amount and after the small blind let go of their hand the big blind went into the tank. A few seconds later and the call was made, followed by his opponent revealing As 5s.

Sam flipped over pocket fours and was looking likely to double-up when the board rolled out Kc-9h-7s-4s. As is often the case, though, fate went against him and, despite making a set, the 8s on the river sent him to the rail.

As Sam headed for the exit 138 players continued to battle for the title, including the likes of Isaac Haxton, Chris Moneymaker and Shaun Deeb.
