EPT San Remo – Day 3: Vamplew on the Rise

David Vamplew has been steadily chipping-up throughout the tournament here in San Remo and just before the start of Day 3’s first break he got involved in an epic pre-flop war with Yevgeniy Timoshenko. vamplew

We caught up with David to get some strategy insight into how the hand went down from his perspective:

“At the moment I’ve got about 440,000 having started the day with 295,000 so it’s been going very well. Most of those chips came from a hand just now involving Yevgeniy just before the break where he six-bet folded against me. He put in about 100,000 chips pre-flop with a 6-bet and folded after I shoved.

I’m not going to say what I had, but it was a spot where I think both of us could be light. The table is playing a lot tighter than I thought it would and before the start I looked at the chips counts and there was a guy two seats to my left that had about 500,000 chips. Being an Italian with a big stack I expected him to be splashing around a lot, but he’s actually been playing really solidly so far. So in actual fact it’s been me and Yevgeniy who’ve been opening the most pots.

In the hand before the break Yevgeniy opened from middle position (something he’d been doing quote a bit) so I decided 3-bet from the button. At this point I could have had tons of stuff because we’d been playing back at ech other a lot, so I was expecting him 4-bet pretty often. Because of this, when I made the 5-bet I could knew he would be expecting it to be light at least some of the time.

However, I guess he didn’t have a hand he could jam over the top with, so he decided to make a 6-bet and force me fold some of my bluffs. I kind of expected this though so I shoved and he obviously couldn’t call an all-in with his hand, so I took down a nice pot.”

The pot pushed David amongst the chip leaders and into a strong position to make it past the bubble.
