Finale Looms at EPT Vienna

Day 3 of this year’s EPT Vienna Main Event saw the bubble burst and just three players remain when the lights inside the Hofburg Palace were turned out.

At the start of the day 176 players were hoping to make it to one of the 135 payout positions, but as the day wore the natural order of things conspired to leave more than 40 players disappointed.

Indeed, as the bubble approached it was Ronny Kaiser who ended up as the final player to leave without a return on his investment.

Despite having an EPT title in his possession and more than $1 million in prize money to his name, Kaiser couldn’t make his A-K outrace the pocket eights of Artem Metalidi.

Indeed, it took just two hands for the bubble to burst and Kaiser to leave empty-handed, something which was almost lost on the surviving players who barely realised the tournament was at such a crucial stage.

With Kaiser now watching from the rail it was Spain’s Gordillo Caballero who rose to the top of the chips counts at the end of the day. Indeed, after raking in 2,111,000 chips, Caballero was able to finish ahead of Anatoly Filatov and Timo Pfutzenreuter.

Also making it through Day 3 and into today’s session was the likes of Jude Ainsworth, Johnny Lodden, Stephen Chidwick and Jack Salter.

Day 4 got underway earlier and with the intention to play down to 16 players, today’s session has already seen more than 20 players hit the rail.

Katchalov Catches a Break in Vienna

In the shadows of EPT Vienna’s €5,300 Main Event, Eugene Katchalov recently found himself a slice a top of the winner’s rostrum after an outright victory in the Eureka Vienna High Roller.

After anteing up €2,200 to play, the Ukrainian born pro managed to overcome 454 players to lift his first tour title and take home €149,400.

The final stages of the tournament saw a host of accomplished pros in line for the title, but after the likes of Dominik Panka and Lars Tungel hit the rail, it was time for Katchalov to shine.

Indeed, after capturing the chip lead in the latter stages of the match, Katchalov was able to beat online PLO specialist, Nikolaus Jedlicka, to take home his first Eureka Poker Tour title.

Eureka Poker Tour Vienna High Roller Result:

1 – Eugene Katchalov – €149,400

Millar Makes the National News

Since becoming a member of PokerStars Team Online, Alexander Millar has become more of a familiar faces on the European circuit.

Despite previously being an unknown legend at the virtual felt, the British pro is now working to increase his media profile and recently wrote a strategy piece for The Telegraph.

Known as one of the UK’s most respected news publications, the piece offers some simple strategy advice – such as be sensible with your money, think about ranges and be consistent with your bets – and provides an interesting break from the newspaper’s regular content.

Indeed, while seasoned grinders might not get much from the piece, it’s fair to say that it will help promote a positive image of the game to the general public.
