FPM interview: Matej, the manager who won a €300 voucher

For the EPT London, we are back with a cool promotion where fantasy poker managers will be able to win a  share of €1,000 in amazon vouchers.

Last August during the EPT Barcelona, we were introducing for the first time in the game’s history, prizes for the top finishers. The top 20 went back home with up to €300, simply by playing a game on Facebook, for free.

Matej, from Slovakia, was our champion. With a team that included Kimmo Kurko, Martin Staszko, or again Dragan kostic, he scored an amazing 894 points. You might think this guy got lucky, but Matej had also been the winner of the league for the WPT Venice earlier this year. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

We reached out to Matej to get his impressions about his score.

FPM: Hi Matej and thank you for answering a few questions. How long have you been playing to Fantasy Poker Manager, and what brought you to the game?

Matej: I have been playing since the very first event. I am the editor of a poker website in Slovakia, and I wrote an article about Fantasy Poker Manager. Ever since, i played regularly and enjoy it very much. It’s a lots of fun when you follow the poker world!

What is your strategy when making your team before a tournament?

I normally take a look at the chip count before day 2, and then draft my favorite players or also some players with whom i have a good feeling. Easy really 🙂

Matej, you won a €300 amazon voucher by finishing first for the EPT Barcelona league. What did you buy?

Well some products don’t always get to Slovakia, but I still had lots of options, and i bought some clothes!

Do you play poker yourself? And if so, have you ever played against the players you put in your fantasy teams?

Sometimes I play for fun. I write more about poker than i play. I often add Slovak players or Czech players but i’ve not had the chance to meet them yet!

Who do you think is going to be a great pick for the upcoming EPT London, and do you think you can win again?

I hope I can win again!! This is a great game and a great promotion that anyone can play for free. But, it is also very hard to get up top. It is a big competition, and i’m already grateful that I won it once.
For the EPT London, if they make Day 2 I think I’ll pick Jan Bendik. He is a great player.

If you had any advice for the other managers, what would you tell them?

Sometimes, it pays to take some risks and act according to your feelings. Oh, and challenge me! 🙂
