GPI National | Germany Top 10

It’s no secret that poker in Germany is thriving. Not only is the poker thriving, but the homegrown talent is causing quite a stir on the GPI300. Three of the Top 7 players in the world hail from Germany and there are a total of 18 German players on the GPI300.

Team Germany is so deep that a EPT London Champ and WSOP APAC final table participant (Benjamin Spindler) and a former WSOP World Champion (Pius Heinz) do not appear on the country’s Top 10 list.

With many top German pros already confirmed for EPT Barcelona, we could see a shake-up in the standings … we take a look at the GPI National Top 10 for Germany:

#10 | Maxi Lehmanski

Finished fifth in the 25K NLH Six-Handed Event #52 (Steve Sung) at the World Series of Poker – collected just under 250K USD for the score, doubling his total earnings on the live tournament circuit in 2013.
Tobias Reinkemeier GPI

#9 | Tobias Reinkemeier

The high roller tournament veteran sits only a few thousand of dollars away from the career 6M USD mark in winnings on the circuit. Biggest cash this year came at the Aussie Millions where he finished second in the 250K Challenge (Sam Trickett), winning 1.25M AUD along the way.

#8 | Manig Loeser

Recently featured as a FPM Player to Keep An Eye On at the WPT Merit Cyprus, Loeser was able to earn valuable Fantasy Points for his FPM Managers finishing in 23rd position and earning 9K USD. That performance could very well help Loeser better his current GPI rating. We won’t know for sure until next week’s GPI300 update.

#7 | Dominik Nitsche

He’s a EPT title away from Poker’s Triple Crown. Quite possibly the man who spends the most time on the road on the circuit, Nitsche scored seven cashes this summer at the World Series of Poker.

#6 | Ismael Bojang

He was one of our FPM Fantasy selections for the WSOP Main Event this summer and although he wasn’t able to cash in the Main, he did enjoy a successful summer in Vegas earning a total of seven scores. He has jumped over 70 spots on the GPI300 since the start of the 2013 campaign.

Martin Finger GPI#5 | Martin Finger

The former EPT Prague Champ has certainly enjoyed a fine 2013 season so far. Having earned over 1M USD this season, Finger joined countryman Nitsche in the “One Title Away from the Triple Crown Club” with his WSOP bracelet victory in Event #21 – NLH Six-Handed this summer at the WSOP. He followed that performance up a few weeks later with a 14th place finish in the 111K One Drop High Roller, pushing his 2013 WSOP total earnings over the 750K USD mark.

#4 | Fabian Quoss

Only a few cashes have qualified for GPI Points this season, combine that with older scores continuing to lose value and Quoss is going to need to pick things up on the circuit if he wishes to continue to thrive on the GPI300 … but with many qualifying events coming his way at EPT Barcelona, don’t be surprised if you see Quoss back to his winning ways soon enough.

Philipp Gruissem GPI#3 | Philipp Gruissem

He knocked Daniel Negreanu off the #2 peg on the GPI300 after his third place finish in the GDAM Asia Millions Warm-Up event but has since dropped to #7 overall. He has crossed the 1.5M USD in earnings mark for the third straight year so things aren’t all bad for Gruissem. Like Quoss, several upcoming events could very play right into his wheelhouse … We wouldn’t be shocked to see Philbort, once again, pushing Jason Mercier at the top of the GPI300 in the near future!

#2 | Marvin Rettenmaier

After a few weeks off after the WSOP, Marvin has already embarked on a very busy poker schedule that is taking him from Malta to Florida to Barcelona in about 10 days! The former GPI#1 has not been happy with his 2013 results so far so look for him to put things into overdrive the rest of the way. His 99th place finish in the WSOP Main Event highlighted a +120K USD summer.

Ole Schemion GPI#1 | Ole Schemion

Sadly, he wasn’t old enough to play in the WSOP this summer. Amazingly, he still remains the #1 ranked poker player in Germany and sits fifth overall on the GPI300. Although he wasn’t able to play the WSOP, he did cash in the ISPT event at Wembley Stadium, finishing 35th out of 761 runners. With big events set for Barcelona, London and Paris in the next few months, Schemion is set to continue his ascension on the GPI300.
