Mercier Still Number One But the Gap Narrows

Jason Mercier continues to hold on to the Number One Global Poker Index ranking this week. However, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier closes the gap after winning the EPT Berlin €10,000 8-Max Re-Entry Event. He now sits a mere twenty-four points behind Mercier. Joining them at the top of the Index this week is Sorel Mizzi. Mizzi reaches his highest rank to date after winning the WPT Vienna €9,700 NLHE High Roller Event. He earns 311 points for his win and moves up 4 spots to GPI#3. Moving up in the Top Twenty this week are Chris Moorman and Juha Helppi (GPI#9 +8). Moorman (GPI#12 +13) was runner-up to Grospellier in the €10,000 8-Max Re-Entry Event earning 321 points. Helppi had a runner-up finish at the same festival. He finished 2nd in the €2,000 PLO Turbo Event earning 152 points and moving up 8 spots to GPI#9.

EPT Berlin Shakes Up the Rankings

The big winner at the EPT Berlin festival was Davidi Kitai and it is reflected in his GPI ranking this week. Kitai won the €5,000 NLHE Main Event and the 502 points he earned by doing so gives him the largest point gain of any player on the Index this week as well as the largest jump in the rankings. He moves up 167 spots to GPI#64. Joining him at the final table were Andrew Chen (GPI#38 +97) and Mario Puccini. The 449 points Chen earned for his runner-up finish gives him the second largest point gain of the week. Mario Puccini finished 4th in this event and makes his GPI debut at GPI#218.

Grospellier and Moorman were not the only players who benefitted from their play in the €10,000 8-Max Re-Entry Event. 3rd place finisher Marvin Rettenmaier moves up 8 spots to GPI#26 this week. Rettenmaier also final tabled the WPT Vienna €9,700 NLHE High Roller Event won by Mizzi.
