GPI300: Sky Falls on Gruissem

Daniel Negreanu gets a little redemption moving back up but it’s Philipp Gruissem who takes a serious hit this week:

VIEW FROM THE TOP

David Sands GPIThe top 2 duo of Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#1, -) and Ole Schemion (GPI#2, -) remains intact for a second week in a row … it’s a fifth straight week at #1 for Mad Marvin. Doc Sands (GPI#3, +1) continues his rise to the top and Daniel Negreanu (GPI#4, +4), after falling to #8 last week, moves back up four spots this week to #4. We welcome Bryn Kenney (GPI#11, +2) and Jason Mercier (GPI#12, +2) to the Top 10 this week.

It wasn’t a very good week for Philipp Gruissem (GPI#12, -9) who falls to #12 after spending the past 30 weeks inside the Top 10. The last time Gruissem found himself outside the Top 10 was in February. Joseph Cheong (GPI#11, -1) joins Gruissem outside the GPI Top 10 this week.

SWIMMING UPSTREAM

Salvatore Bonavena GPIJust as they did last week, the Italians continue to swim upstream this week. A final table performance at the UKIPT High Roller event in London allows Salvatore Bonavena (GPI#182, +97) to make the biggest move inside the GPI300 this week.

Early success at EPT London has allowed plenty of players to gain ground inside the GPI300 including: Thomas Muehloecker (GPI#173, +69), Paul Berende (GPI#100, +62) and reigning WPT Prague Champ Marcin Wydrowski (GPI#164, +58).

DOWN THE LADDER

Chris Brammer GPIChristopher Brammer (GPI#267, -70) took the hardest fall inside the 300 this week. Brammer has not picked up a result on the live tournament circuit since the WSOP this summer. This is the second consecutive week that Brammer takes a hit, he has lost over 120 spots in the standings during this stretch.

Big names joining Brammer down the ladder this week include Vojtech Ruzicka (GPI#239, -47), two-time WSOP bracelet winner Athanasios Polychronopoulos (GPI#224, -41) and Isaac Haxton (GPI#193, -39).

IN-N-OUT

Kenny Hallaert GPIIt was certainly a good trip to London for Kenny Hallaert (GPI#206, +102) who returns to the GPI300 for the first time since late June. Hallaert cashed in both the UKIPT Main (91st) and High Roller (3rd) events to help him return to the 300. The Belgian pro should also see his ranking rise next week as he cashed in the Main Event at EPT London, surviving the bubble.

Paul Tedeschi (GPI#218, +145), who ranked outside the GPI300 last week for the first time since early June, returns to the list this week.

Manuel Bevand GPIOn the flip-side, Manuel Bevand (GPI#328, -28), who is currently living in the GPI300 Danger Zone, is once again on the outside looking in. Bevand has been hovering around the 200 to 400 mark all season long. It will be interesting to see if Bevand’s cash at EPT London will allow him to return to exclusive club next week.

Legendary poker pro John Juanda (GPI#315, -127) also drops from the GPI300 this week. This is the first time that Juanda finds himself outside the 300 since March of 2012.
