VIEW FROM THE TOP
Daniel Negreanu’s (GPI#1, -) begins his fourth straight week at the top after regaining the #1 spot back from Ole Schemion (GPI#2, -) at the Aussie Millions. Marvin Rettenmaier (GPI#3, -) remains at #3 this week.
Jason Mercier (GPI#6, -2) takes a bit of a tumble falling to sixth this week although he did finish in the money at the L.A. Poker Classic (which starts Day 5 play today), we’ll have to see if those points help Mercier move back up next week. Philipp Gruissem (GPI#4, +1) and Mike McDonald (GPI#5 CR, +3) are the biggest beneficiaries from Mercier’s drop this week, each moving into the Top 5.
After falling out of the Top 10 following a 100+ point drop last week, Paul Volpe (GPI#9, +6) took matters into his own hands this week. Volpe won the 5K NLH Prelim event at the L.A. Poker Classic, defeating Andrew Lichtenberger (GPI#75, +18) heads-up. The win helped Volpe obtain over 350 GPI points, pushing him back into the Top 10.
One week after making a return to the Top 10 following a deep run at the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic, Mike Watson (GPI#17, -8) is back out this week, dropping to 17th in the World as old scores continue to depreciate.
