GUKPT Goliath Surpasses Expectations, Selbst Gets Married

GUKPT Goliath Becomes the Biggest in Europe

This year’s GUKPT Goliath has broken the record for the largest ever tournament held in Europe thanks to 2,570 entrants anteing up £120.

Although not all unique entries (due to the tournament being a rebuy), the number is still impressive and a sign that low buy-in tournaments with healthy guarantees and good structures are hugely popular.

Indeed, by the time the last few players had taken to their seats the original £200,000 prizepool had been increased to £257,000 which means today’s winner will walk away with £56,540.

At the time of writing the action was in full swing and already two players had been eliminated, the first of which took place on the very first hand.

After watching the dealer present a flop that read Qs 6d Jd, Dan Cullen proceeded to call Dan Arbon’s all-in with three queens. With Arbon at risk and needing a ten to help his As Kd overcome Cullen’s set an unhelpful 4h and 3s on the turn and river eventually ended his chances of taking the title.

With Arbon got it was Kevin Stevens who hit the rail in seventh place after his Ac Kd was unable to outrace Robert Trueman’s pocket tens.

A Tale of Marriage and Divorce

Two of the poker world’s best known players, Prahlad Friedman and Vanessa Selbst, were both been involved in contrasting relationship incidents over the weekend.

While Selbst was left smiling after tying the knot with her long-term partner, Miranda Forster, Friedman was left ruing his luck after filing for divorce.

Indeed, according to celebrity gossip site TMZ, Prahlad and Dee Luong Friedman have decided to officially separate after seven years of marriage.

Having split-up back in April, the two poker players have filed for divorce and will now fight for possession of their $2,000,000 Malibu home.

In contrast to Friedman, Selbst was able to legally confirm her blossoming relationship when she said “I do” in front of family and friends from the poker world during a rooftop ceremony in Brooklyn New York.
