Lindgren Eases Financial Woes with WSOP Win

Lindgren Tops List of Daily WSOP Winners

Three WSOP bracelets were decided earlier today but arguably the most significant was Erick Lindgren’s. Having faced a wave of negative press over the last few months, namely for his large debts, the American pro capped a recent hot streak with a win in Event #32.

Since finishing second in the WPT World Championships for $650,275, Lindgren has cashed five times at this year’s WSOP, with his most recent earning him a second bracelet.

Having edged his way past some of the world’s toughest shorthanded No Limit Hold’em players, including Allen Bariand Andrew Robl, Lindgren finally clinched the $606,371 top prize after beating Lee Markholt heads-up.

In a sneaky move, Lindgren decided to limp on the button with pocket aces and watch as the flop rolled out: [9d] [Js] [As]. After Markholt led out for 110,000, Lindgren upped the ante to 275,000 before Markholt moved his entire stack in.

Without hesitation Lindgren called and as the cards were revealed Markholt was left cursing his luck after he discovered his [Jh] [9c] was well behind Lindgren’s set of aces. With the hand virtually over, the dealer laid out the [7s] and [5h] on the turn and river before pushing the pot, the bracelet, and winner’s prize towards Lindgren.

Across the Rio, Michael Gathy and Bryan Campanello were also etching their names in the WSOP record books.

Having battled his way past 299 players, Campanello was able to prevent David Bach from finishing top of the leaderboard for three days in a row to scoop his first bracelet and $178,052 in Event #33.

As Campanello was winning his first title, Gathy was earning his second after sprinting to victory in the high octane $1,000 Turbo event. After outrunning the likes of Jake Cody and Jason Duval, Gathy needed just 24 hands to beat Benjamin Reason heads-up and bank $278,613.
