Liv Falters During UKIPT Opener, Greg Merson’s Guide to Success

Pros Fall at UKIPT Nottingham

Day 1A inside Dusk Till Dawn saw 61 players become 24 in UKIPT‘s inaugural 6-max Main Event. Featuring some of the UK’s top grinders, the first of three starting sessions was certainly kind to some but disappointing for other.

Indeed, for the likes of Liv Boeree the going tougher than expected and despite her best efforts she was one of the pros that found themselves watching from the rail before the closing bell was rung. Despite surviving the early onslaught during the opening rounds, Liv was eliminated just moments before the tournament director called time session when her A-Q was unable to overcome Adam Reynolds’ pocket queens.

With Liv and other notable pros now dreaming about what could have been, local cash game player Mitch Johnson was able to scoop the chip lead after a huge pot against Kyriacos Dionysiou’s in the dying moments of the day went his way.

Day 1B of the £1,100 Nottingham event got underway earlier and at the time of writing the likes of JP Kelly and Vicky Coren have already fallen by the wayside as the field has dropped from 130 to 106.

Greg ‘Mr. Successful’ Merson

Greg Merson might not be the biggest celebrity name in the world, but since his success in the 2012 WSOP Main Event he’s become a recognisable face on the poker circuit. Indeed, outside of our community bubble his achievements aren’t really known by the general public but that’s all about to change thanks to a new book entitled Success: By Those Who’ve Made It.

Written by Paul Stenning, the book looks at what it takes to become successful in life through the eyes of people who’ve “made it” and features a plethora of famous names, including: DJ Jazzy Jeff, Mario Andretti (racing car driver) and Frank Abagnale (subject of the film Catch Me if You Can).

While the piece is great for Greg on a personal level, it’s also another positive mention in mainstream media for the game of poker.
