Michael Richardson Wins GPS Nottingham, Jay Farber’s Troubles

Deadman Wins Big but Fails to Scoop GPS Title

They set out to break a record and by the time the registration desks closed inside Nottingham’s Dusk Till Dawn card room the £440 Main Event had reached an impressive 935 entrants. Forming part of the Genting Poker Series 2014 schedule, the £100,000 event easily surpassed its guarantee and by the time the field reached its final stages a top prize of £80,000 glinted on the horizon.

As the masses dispersed and players made their way to the exit a final table of seasoned pros and plucky amateurs eventually formed. Headed by WPT Dublin winner Simon Deadman, the final nine wasted no time pushing their chips around and within a few orbits the flurry of betting led to the demise of JP Kelly.

Despite being one of the finale’s most experienced players, Kelly couldn’t revive the ailing fortunes of his short stack and committing his chips with AK he found himself watching from the rail after Deadman called with pocket aces.

With his main rival now consoling himself with a well earned pint, Deadman was able to continue dominate proceedings until he held more than half the chips in play with just three players left. Content to hear the proposals of Tim Slater and Michael Richardson, Deadman finally agreed to a three-way chop that would secure him at least £70,000.

At this point the player’s new found wealth ensured that things were brought to a swift conclusion and after Slater fell away in third it was only Richardson who stood in Deadman’s way. However, despite his opponent enjoying much of the positive variance at the final table, Richardson refused to give up and after luck break with A5 against Deadman’s AT he was able to clinch the spare £1,000 and winner’s trophy.

Indeed, the final hand saw the satellites qualifier take down Deadman’s A-8 with pocket tens. With that the final pot was pushed his way, as well as a silver playing card signifying his status as the latest GPS champion.

Jay Farber’s Mansion Robbed

Jay Farber’s run of positive variance seems to have come to an abrupt end after his new house was robbed just a few days after he moved in.

News of the break-in came via Jay’s Twitter after he wrote: “Wow. My house got robbed while I’m out to dinner. 2 days before I get my cameras installed. F**k . My. Life.”

Apparently that’s not where his downswing ended as a few days prior to the theft his car was smashed into whilst it was being valet parked at a Las Vegas casino.

While Jay has declined to outline exactly which items were taken, some members of the community have been quick to construct a conspiracy theory.

Posted on 2+2 and entitled “Jay Farber’s New House Robbed, Suspicious Timing”, the message essentially speculated that the timing of robbery seemed a little more the coincidental and some now believe this could be a ploy by Jay to pay less tax.

Of course this is nothing more than conjecture at this time and there is no suggestion Jay actually set-up a fake heist in order to reduce his tax bill.

At present the thread is still open which means more information could come to light in the coming days.
