Michalak Wins the ISPT, Josephy & Wheeler Claim WSOP Gold
Poland’s Michalak Lifts ISPT Trophy in Wembley
After almost a week of grinding inside Wembley Stadium, Poland’s Jakub Michalak became the ISPT champion, yesterday. With the final nine unable to agree a deal on Tuesday, yesterday’s surviving cohort was more eager to split the prizepool after an evening’s rest.
Indeed, after running through the numbers, the final six eventually agreed to give Pete Linton €375,000, while the remaining players each banked just over €200,000 each. After dividing the prizepool there was €200,000 set aside for the winner and when the action restarted it was Michalak who looked the most dominant.
The first player to hit the rail was the ISPT’s final remaining female, Gwendoline Janot, after falling foul of the poker god’s wrath. Having battled hard throughout the tournament, Janot eventually hit the rail after her all-in with pocket nines was met by a call from Xavier El Fassey with pocket kings. That loss left her with just five big blinds and the very next hand she was all-in again with [Td] [7h] and left heading for the rail courtesy of Jakub Michalak’s [Ad] [2s].
Now down to five, Alban Juen, Pete Linton and Nick Hicks all suffered the same fate as Janot and were sent the sidelines. That spate of eliminations left El Fassey and Michalak vying for the ISPT title.
While their ambitions were the same, their chip stacks certainly weren’t at the start of the heads-up battle as Michalak held a commanding 8:1 chip lead.
After weathering a mini comeback from El Fassey, the match was won in just a few hands after Michalak 3-bet jammed [As] [7c] into the pocket kings of El Fassey. Despite being behind pre-flop, the [Ah] [Jh] [3c] [4d] [Ac] board ensured that the final pot was pushed Michalak’s way and that he became the inaugural ISPT champion.

Double Bracelet Day in the Rio
Cliff Josephy managed to clinch his second WSOP bracelet earlier today after battling through a tough $3,000 Shootout final table. Eight years after claiming his first bracelet, Josephy notched up another victory after beating Evan Silverstein heads-up.
After making it past the likes of Tim West, Chris Klodnicki and David Baker in the finale, the pair battled for 46 hands before Josephy finally found the right time to trap Silverstein.
After raising to 60,000 pre-flop with [As] [2d], Josephy took a moment to contemplate his next move after Silverstein moved all-in with [Kh] [Ts]. After asking for a count, Josephy eventually called and after sweating his fate on a [5h] [Qh] [Jh] flop, the [3d] and [5c] on the turn and river gave him the pot and another moment in the spotlight.
While Josephy was rolling back the years and enjoying a memorable win, Brent Wheeler was busy taking the plaudits in Event #10. Having made his way past 644 players, Wheeler used his Limit Hold’em know-how to scoop the $191,605 top prize after beating Mark Mierkalns heads-up.
