Negreanu and Humble Beginnings

Daniel Negreanu is one of the most well-known players in poker. His outgoing personality pairs with his tendency to be outspoken, friendly with fans, and passionate about the game of poker.

Negreanu has accumulated more than $21 million in live tournament earnings to date, ranking number one in the world. He is also the most popularly top-ranked player in poker after his friend Phil Ivey.

Recently, poker reporter Remko Rinkema sat down with Negreanu for long and extensive interview, of which part one of four is published on iGaming.org.

Negreanu opens up about his childhood, especially the close relationship with his mother. He admitted to being a bit of a troublemaker in school, but his brother and mother always came to his defense and supported him.

He discusses his desire as a youngster to become an actor, his teenage years as a billiards hustler, and his very first experiences with poker. As high school became boring and lacked challenge, poker came into his life as a fulfilling and money-making endeavor.
