Premier League: Mizzi Magic, Gross Gains

Heat 3 play at the partypoker Premier League wrapped up late last night at the Playground Poker Club outside of Montreal with Sorel Mizzi dominating most of Friday’s play…

SOREL’S SHOW

Sorel Mizzi GPIHeat 3 play was dominated early by Sorel Mizzi (GPI#13) who held most of the chips for most of the night. Right from the get-go, Mizzi built what looked like an unsurmountable lead as his opponents were dropping like flies. But a few Jeff Gross (GPI#101) suck-outs while three-handed would certainly make things very interesting and would see Sorel lose his lead. But alas, Mizzi would still pull away with the victory placing himself in good position heading into this third match on Saturday.

However the day’s big winner was Gross who has taken the lead in the overall standings with a first and a second place finish through two heats played. Gross opens up a nine-point lead in the race for automatic entry to final table play as he takes Saturday off from league play. On the flip-side, another early exit from Phil Laak (GPI#279) means that he may have to start setting his sights on the heads-up play-in matches as a spot in the Top 4 may already be a thing of the past for the Unabomber.
