Pros Join EPT Grand Final, Rheem’s WPT Faux Pas

Action Hotting Up in EPT Grand Final

The EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo kicked into high gear today with the start of the Super High Roller event. Although the festival as a whole got underway on Tuesday, today’s session saw the first of the major EPT events featuring the game’s top players take place.

Indeed, when the betting in the €100,000 Super High Roller kicked off the likes of Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Ole Schemion and Isaac Haxton were amongst the event’s 55 entrants.

So far that number has been reduced to 44 but with registration open until the close of the session, a few more pros are expected to buy-in (or rebuy) and fight for one of the few remaining EPT titles of Season 10.

While those with bankrolls deeper than the Atlantic Ocean fight for supremacy in the Super High Roller, Jake Cody has been offering a free slice of his action in one of the ongoing French Poker Series tournaments.

In an act of generosity not often seen, Cody decided to offer 1% of his action for anyone who could guess the value of his hand.

In the end it transpired that he was holding [Ah] [2h] and thanks to the welcome response it received he promised to run another competition later today if he plays any more interesting hands.

Rheem Misses out on $5 Million in Value

While the WPT World Championship moves ever closer to a conclusion, an interesting story emerged last night after Chino Rheem revealed he didn’t realise his place in this year’s event was free.

The US pro famously won the tournament last year but according to a tweet he decided to stay in Las Vegas this week and not ante-up in the $15,400 finale.

Although his reasoning was unclear – Chino has notoriously had money issues in the past – it looks as though Chino was unaware that being the defending champion got him free entry to the event.

Both Robert Mizrachi and Dan Fleyshman tried to tell Chino that he’d wasted his free shot at the $5 million prizepool. However, Chino seemed unmoved by the revelation, tweeting: “I’m doing choice instead. It is what it is.”
