Romanello Returns Home As Lex Goes Live

Romanello Runs Into Reality

He’s currently lording it over the rest of the UK’s GPI Top 100 and over the last few weeks Roberto Romanello has been talking to PartyPoker’s blog about his life.

After another profitable tournament jaunt across Europe that included a final table appearance at the WSOPE Main Event, Roberto returned home and was swiftly handed a dose of reality courtesy of his local cash game.

I have been winning all over Europe then I come home – and the game is pretty big now in Swansea – and they battered me. I lost £3,800 in a session.”

The article is the first in a three part series that will delve into what it’s like to be a tournament pro atop of the GPI rankings.

Stealing Chips the Wrong Way gavel

Five machete wielding criminals have just been sentenced to at least five years in prison following a robbery back in 2011.

Posing as pizza delivery men, the gang descended upon a house in Heysham, Lancashire UK, after learning of a private poker game taking place.

After bundling their way into the house, they proceeded to steal the players’ money – as much as £2,000 – as well as their mobile phones before leaving.

The thieves were later caught and earlier this week they were sentenced to between five and eight-and-a-half years in prison.

Lex Veldhuis Goes Live

Lex Veldhuis is one of Holland’s top cash game players, but when it comes to tournaments he’ struggled to live up to the likes of fellow countrymen Govert Metaal and Paul Berende.

However, despite not enjoying his time at this year’s WSOP, Lex has made it his mission to start enjoying tournament poker more with the aim that it will improve his results.

Writing on his new website, lexveldhuis.com, he explains that he has been working closely with mental game expert Jared Tendler to identify why he’s not performing to his potential in tournaments.

In the blog post he writes: “I realized that most of my frustration with tournaments isn’t because I hate them so much, it’s because I have a lot of regret how I played in some of them and a lot of accumulated tilt from going deep but being unlucky.”

Lex’s goes on to say that his new website will become a place where he will discuss his time on the tournament circuit, as well as being a hub for some strategy talk.

Maybe now Lex has a new place to write down his thoughts he can begin to improve on his current 14th place ranking on the GPI’s Dutch 100.

Galfond Defeats Tollerene

Phil Galfond became the latest player through to PokerStars’ All-Star Showdown semi-final today after beating Ben Tollerene.

The pair battled for over 10 hours with thousands of dollars changing hands over the course of the match, but in the end it was Galfond who came out on top.

Indeed, not even a power outage in his building could prevent him from scooping $100,000 from his opponent over the course of 4,341 hands.

Phil will now face Dan Cates on Saturday in the second semi-final match. Before those two clash, however, Isaac Haxton and Ben Sulsky will face-off for a place in the final.
