UKIPT Galway Gearing Up, Poker Raid in Portugal

UKIPT Galway on the Horizon

There’s just over one week to go before UKIPT’s bandwagon pulls into Galway, Ireland, for its second event of the new season.

Flanked by a formidable sponsor in the form of Full Tilt, the Galway festival will feature a myriad of events between July 27 and August 12.

Indeed, over the course of festival a total of 60 events will take place with buy-ins ranging from €40 to €10,300. Undoubtedly the pick of the roster is the €1,100 Main Event which will feature a guaranteed prizepool of €1,000,000.

Whenever a major tournament lands in Ireland the nation’s best always ante-up, but when UKIPT rolls into town an international field is expected to take part.

A number of British pros, including Liv Boeree, will likely be part of the event, as will some of Europe’s finest.

Poker Game Raided in Portugal

Live poker players in Portugal will be looking over their shoulder after a recent raid by local authorities.

Following a police raid of a bingo game in Albufeira last month, players in a private poker game in Madeira have also come under fire from the law.

After conducting a four month surveillance operation on the property where the game was being held, representatives of the National Republican Guard arrested 18 people.

Known by the codename “All-In” and sanctioned by the Judicial Court of Funchal, the operation saw the police seize €2,200 in cash, two cars, an iPad and a laptop.

According to Major Marco Nunes of the National Republic Guard, the players arrested in the game can expect between three months and two years in prison.
