UKIPT Marbella Result, Anderson Takes WSOP Gold

Home Victory for Espinosa in Marbella

UKIPT’s recent summer holiday to Spain resulted in a win for one of the country’s native grinders, Rodrigo Espinosa. Following on from another successful UKIPT Marbella Main Event which saw 750 players take to the felt, Espinosa managed to best a tough final table which included top UK pro, Jake Cody.

The Spaniards final table campaign got off to a flying start when he ousted Mr. Cody in eighth place. A rough start for the Brit soon had him on the ropes and in need of a double up so when he found pocket nines he decided to make a move. Unfortunately, Espinosa woke up with pocket aces and made the easy call.

With arguably his biggest threat now watching from the rail (or heading to Vegas on the first plane as it transpired) Espinosa was able to take his foot off the gas pedal for a while and watch as Marcin Barwinski and Daniel Rodriguez fell in succession.

At this point Espinosa was back in the frame and taking out another player, this time Gareth Hamilton whose pocket kings were the unfortunate victim of his executioner’s rivered flush.

As players dropped like flies Espinosa only seemed to get stronger and by the time only Christian Bauer stood in his way he was virtually unstoppable.

With a commanding chip lead the hometown player took just five hands to dispatch with his German foe and claim the €136,000 top prize after making two pair by the river.

UKIPT Marbella Main Event Final Result:

1st. Rodrigo Espinosa – €136,000

2nd. Christian Bauer – €82,900

3rd. Katja Svendsen – €58,700

4th. Javier Elorza – €44,450

5th. Gareth Hamilton – €35,150

6th. Daniel Rodriguez – €26,550

7th. Marcin Barwinski – €19,050

8th. Jake Cody – €13,030

Anderson Steps into the WSOP Spotlight

Today’s WSOP bracelet action saw American hotshot Calvin Anderson claim his first bracelet. Anderson has long been known by some of the game’s finest as one of the top young players in the world. However, with little media attention he has often flown under-the-radar in the events he’s played.

All that will now change though as he managed to dominate the latest $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8-or-Better.

After battling his way past more than 585 players, Anderson was able to book himself a heads-up showdown with WSOP veteran, Joe Tehan.

The final flurry of action saw Anderson seize the initiative and scoop the title as well as $190,538 when his 8d 4h 6h 8c 5h 4d 10s bested his opponent’s pair of deuces.
