UKIPT Nottingham Attracts Stars, Petter Northug in Car Accident

Moneymaker Joins UKIPT Nottingham

Yesterday saw the start of the latest UKIPT event in Nottingham and when as players filtered through the door a healthy selection of international pros were on display.

Indeed, thanks to continued growth of the PokerStars run series, some of the UK’s top talent, including Sam Trickett and Vicky Coren, were joined by one of the US poker scene’s best known players: Chris Moneymaker.

After hearing good things about Nottingham’s Dusk Till Dawn and UKIPT the man who sparked the poker boom decided to hope on a plane and join the action before taking part in this year’s WSOP.

While the £1 million Main Event kicked off earlier today, the £300,000 got underway on Tuesday and after a day the likes of Ludovic Geilich, recent EPT Grand Final runner-up Jack Salter and Sam Trickett had all be cast to the rail.

However, while a number of stars had fallen many made it through the day and topping the chip chart at the close of play was Ben Vinson. The DTD regular managed to top a slew of pros which included Matt Perrins, Zimnan Ziyard and PKR’s newest pro, Eleanor Gudger.

Today’s session is currently in full swing and you can catch live updates from the felt courtesy of PokerStars’ live updates team.

Northug’s Hit-and-Run

High stakes poker player and Olympic skier Petter Northug ran into trouble recently after he crashed his luxury car into a barrier and fled the scene.

Northug, who can usually be found on the European circuit as well as online under the handle ‘NorthugJr’, crashed his Audi A7 late last week after consuming too much alcohol.

After hitting a barrier in Trondheim, Norway, Northug ran from the scene, leaving a passenger slightly injured in the process, before police tracked him to his home.

The international skier initially denied that he was driving the car but after police linked traces of blood to Northug he admitted his crime before issuing a formal apology.
