Weisner And Selbst both Win During The Weekend

After a bit of a break from big poker events, the live tournament scene came to life. From South Africa to the United States, players took advantage of their chances to play live poker.

Weisner in South Africa

South Africa was a new stop for most players, and the World Poker Tour planned an international event there for this week. Side events started already, though, and it was a good opportunity for Melanie Weisner to improve on her 94th place spot on the GPI. She claimed her first open event win in the $1,000 NLHE six-max event and won approximately $41,000, according to her Twitter account @melanieweisner.

Selbst in Las Vegas

At the same time, Vanessa Selbst, currently 13th on GPI and ready to move up, was playing at the Bellagio in the Festa al Lago series in Las Vegas. The Main Event is no longer on the WPT schedule and many players have lodged complaints against Bellagio for their tournament structures, but players like Selbst seek action. Bellagio offered a $5K NLHE that started on Saturday, and she began tweeting about it from her @VanessaSelbst account on Day 2. She noted that she cracked Chris Bjorin’s aces to eliminate him and take almost half the chips in play to five-handed action. She was then three-handed with Justin Young and Daniel Negreanu, and she emerged victorious. “Won it!” was her tweet. She took home about $90,000 and another title.

From the Heartland

And in Iowa, not exactly the poker capital of the world, the Heartland Poker Tour was working its way to the final table. They got there with former WSOP champion Greg Raymer as the chip leader. Raymer was on an HPT rush, having won his first Heartland title in July, then his second just last month in St. Louis. Can he capture a third?

Dan Smith Again?

The online poker scene lit up late Sunday night with news that Dan “Dan98765” Smith, currently #8 on the GPI, took down the Sunday Million for a massive $219,504 score. He continues to storm the poker world and collect victories in nearly every poker market.
