WPT Canadian Spring Championship Preview

A little over five months ago, a little poker tournament in Montreal shocked the world.  The World Poker Tour made its way to Montreal for the very first time and, well, the poker world took notice.  Over 1,100 entries into the 3K buy-in tournament had most people thinking “why didn’t they go there before”!

When the dust settled, it was local star Jonathan Roy (GPI#171) who would end up being victorious, collecting the second win of his young poker career.  Most recently, Roy final tabled the Main Event at the 2013 PCA.

Roy would defeat fellow Quebec pro, and 2010 WSOP bracelet winner, Pascal Lefrançois (GPI#426) heads-up.

Now this isn’t the return of WPT Montreal, it’s a totally new and different event on the WPT’s Season XI Event Schedule.  WPT Montreal will return in November as part of Season XII festivities.

Welcome to the WPT Canadian Spring Championship, presented by Party Poker.  With the start of the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo coinciding with this event, we may or may not match the totals from last November but one thing is for sure – those who aren’t going to Monte Carlo are coming to Montreal!  Also, a great amount of players have already registered in the event by qualifying either live at the Playground Poker Club or on Party Poker.

Roy is here to defend his Championship (although he technically won’t be defending the title until next November) as is recent WPT Barcelona champ Chanracy Khun.  Add the likes of Shannon Shorr, Joseph Serock, WPT Season XI Player of the Year front-runner Matt Salsberg, Christian Harder, WPT Five Diamond Champ Ravi Raghavan, Justin Zaki and Gavin Smith (who final-tabled WPT Montreal last November) amongst others and you’ve got yourself a great tournament on the horizon!
