WSOP Main Event: And Then They Were Two
After a looooong night in Las Vegas, we are down to heads-up play and later tonight, Jay Farber (GPI#842) or Ryan Riess (GPI#340) will be crowned World Champion at the WSOP…
HOW WE GOT HERE
It took a little while to lose our first player on Monday. Short stacks Mark Newhouse and David Benefield refused to lose as both we are able to acquire chips early. But something had to give when we came back from our first break and both Newhouse and Benefield would be out within a two-hand span:
9th Place: Mark Newhouse: eliminated by Riess when his pocket 9s were defeated by Riess’ AK when a K hit the flop
8th Place: David Benefield: eliminated by Farber when his Ks2s lost to Farber’s AK
7th Place: Michiel Brummelhuis: eliminated by Riess when he was dealt 99 against Riess’ AA in the blinds!
After Brummelhuis’ elimination, it took quite some time for us to lose another player. Hours after six-handed play began, Marc-Etienne McLaughlin would be handed the cooler of all coolers and other eliminations quickly followed:
6th Place: Marc Etienne McLaughlin: eliminated on a KK vs AA hand at the hands of Farber
5th Place: JC Tran: Farber does it again! This time Farber’s KQ sucks out on JC’s A7 after a king hit the flop
4th Place: Sylvain Loosli: The Riess and Farber show continues as Riess’ A10 bests the Frenchman’s Q7
3rd Place: Amir Lehavot: On the following hand, Riess took care of Lehavot as Riess’ 1010 dominated Lehavot’s 77
And then they were two …
