WSOP Main Event Latest, GUKPT Walsall Rumbles On
Brunson Still Fighting on Day 3
It might have come to an ominous close with 666 players still in contention for the Main Event title, but for the likes of Doyle Brunson Day 4 looks pretty positive.
Having welcomed back 1,735 players to the Rio for Day 3, today’s action saw a number of familiar faces, including Phil Ivey, hit the rail.
However, while the fall of Ivey offered a slice of solace for the remaining amateurs in the field, the rise of Doyle Brunson is sure to give them cause for concern.
Despite insisting he wouldn’t play this year’s Main Event, the veteran pro managed to carve his way through the masses earlier today and finish in 37th place on the leaderboard.
Doyle’s progress isn’t the only Cinderella story which could be written after this year’s Main Event. Reigning champion Greg Merson is still in contention, as are a number of female pros such as Melanie Weisner and Lauren Kling.
While the pros are going strong, they will all be chasing the 1,071,500 chip stack of Maxx Coleman. The American grinder finished the day with the chip lead ahead of Joshua Prager (993,000) and Max Steinberg (975,000).
WSOP Main Event Day 3 Chip Counts:

GUKPT Walsall Latest
Day 1B of this year’s GUKPT Walsall event has already attracted more players than yesterday’s opening session and at the time of writing 84 players were still in contention.
Of the players on display a number of circuit regulars are grinding their way towards the lion’s share of the £50,000 prizepool, including Jeff Kimber and Mark McCluskey.
So far a handful of players have hit the rail with the first player to bust being Alli Mallu. After moving all-in with K-8 on a J 6 7 9 board, Mallu failed to hit his straight as a 3 on the river sent the pot towards his opponent holding K-J.
Today’s session will play on into the night before Day 2 will see a new GUKPT champion crowned.
