WSOP Players Fight, Ben Winsor Wins GUKPT Walsall

Player Gets Beaten at the WSOP

The World Series of Poker is a time for taking it to your opponents at the felt but in the last 24 hours two famous faces decided to square-off in the Rio’s hallways.

Brandon Cantu and Jeff Lisandro might be consummate professionals most of the time, but when an issue involving an unpaid surfaced earlier today their emotions got the better of them.

While Lisandro has never been one to shy away from a confrontation, Cantu isn’t usually the type to throw a punch in anger.

However, according to various Twitter sources the two players were seen swinging for each other in a heated exchange during some down time from the felt.  Numerous bystanders recall hearing a commotion before tweeting that “a couple of punches were thrown” and a shirt was “ripped“.

Soon after the incident was broken up by the Rio’s security staff, Bluff’s Thomas ‘SrslySirius’ Keeling spoke to Lisandro who claimed “no punches” were thrown and that he’s mellowed over the years.

Winsor Wins in Walsall

It might not be the bright lights of Las Vegas but in the last 24 hours another tournament title was decided in Walsall. After welcoming the great and the good of the British poker scene for the latest GUKPT event, Ben Winsor managed to weave his way past 195 opponents to best Simon Deadman in a dramatic final battle.

Despite missing the event’s £100,000 guarantee, the £500 Main Event was still a hotly contested affair and by the time the field had whittled itself down to a final nine it was Winsor who gradually took control.

Winsor has already made three final tables on the UK scene this year, including the previous GUKPT Main Event in Brighton, and this time around he managed to go a few steps better than before to claim a title.

Indeed, as the likes of John Eames and Michael Hart hit the rail, Winsor soon found himself heads-up against one of the UK’s hottest new talents: Simon Deadman.

After a quick discussion the two players agreed to cut a deal and when the talking was over it was Winsor who triumphed after his Ad Jd maintained its advantage over Deadman’s Ac Td in the final hand.
