WSOPC South Africa Starts, Ivey Buys Leggo

WSOPC Underway in South Africa

The World Series of Poker Circuit strays from its normal United States tour to bring its tournaments to South Africa. The Emerald Casino in Gauteng is hosting the six-day poker festival that began on February 5.

Event 1 drew 278 players to the $365 NLHE event for a prize pool of $83,400. The entire final table consisted of South African players, and Jarred Solomon of Johannesburg emerged as the winner, taking home $20,018.

Event 2 began on February 6 and drew 76 players to the $580 NLHE 6-Handed tournament. The prize pool came to $38K, and Greg Tucker leads the final table at the end of Day 1.

IveyPoker Acquires LeggoPoker

Phil Ivey’s instructional poker website began to take shape with the announcement of IveyPoker’s acquisition of LeggoPoker. Described as a community-based website focused on poker strategy, LeggoPoker will serve as the platform for IveyPoker’s new Ivey League. The subscription-based poker site will offer training videos and other content from the 29 pros signed to Ivey’s site.

According to the announcement, players can receive initial poker instruction from an IveyPoker app, which will be a free play social and mobile poker game as well. They can then join the Ivey League for more in-depth training.
