WSOPE Main: Marathon Men | Mateos Diaz Outlasts Soulier

Two men entered and hours later only one man survived and is crowned the new World Series of Poker Europe Main Event Champion …

19-YEAR-OLD WINS SPAIN’S THIRD

Carlos Mortensen GPIOnly one man from Spain had ever won a World Series of Poker bracelet. In fact, he had won two. 2001 WSOP Main Event Champion Carlos Mortensen (GPI#237), who also won a bracelet in limit hold’em in 2003, was that man … until today. Congratulations to Adrian Mateos Diaz (GPI#406) who wins his first ever WSOP bracelet by winning a marathon heads-up matchup.

At only 19 years of age, you can expect Mateos Diaz to be on the rise for many years to come.

SOULIER MISSES ON SECOND BRACELET

Fabrice Soulier GPIFormer 10K H.O.R.S.E. bracelet winner Fabrice Soulier (GPI#286) wasn’t going to let Mateos Diaz run away with the title. Both men fought hard, Mateos Diaz held a big lead at one point, then Soulier rallied and then the lead changed hands again!

Although he will be disappointed finishing second, Soulier will be happy to put what had so far been a miserable season – by his standards – behind him. Surprisingly, this is Soulier’s biggest cash ever on live tournament circuit.
