2015 GPI PoY: Muehloecker, Kavrakov to the top

An Austria star takes the lead while a WPT National winner sits second…

MUEHLOECKER MOVES IN

Thomas Muehloecker THMA good start to the 2015 poker season sees Austrian star Thomas Muehloecker (GPI#14) move to the top of the 2015 GPI Player of the Year race. After a pair of cashes at the PCA in the Bahamas, Muehloecker has already cashed twice at the Aussie Millions, including a big $195,000 AUD score in the $25K Challenge where he collected a 5th place finish. Three of the Austrian’s four scores have earned him over 300 points. He is one of two players to have scored 1,000 points so far this season.

Following a few impressive scores, Muehloecker reached star status at the 2013 EPT Barcelona Festival, where he would defeat Daniel Negreanu heads-up in the €10K High Roller event for the most profitable win of his poker career.

Muehloecker, who is coming off back-to-back National PoY titles for Austria, looks to already be in line for a third in a row. He finished 57th overall in the 2014 Global PoY race.

EARLY WIN SEES KAVRAKOV TAKE SECOND

A Main Event victory at WPT National Cyprus has helped Bulgarian pro Atanas Kavrakov (GPI#151) move to 2nd in the overall Player of the Year race, trailing Muehloecker by a little over 40 points heading into the second month of the poker season.

Kavrakov’s second career victory earned him €75,000, the biggest cash of his career on the live tournament circuit.

The win counts for Kavrakov’s seventh of the season. Prior to his two scores at the WPT National Cyprus, the Bulgarian cashed in five events at the PCA in the Bahamas.
