EPT Berlin Preview

We have reached the penultimate event on the European Poker Tour.  Months after Season 9 began in Barcelona, the tour has made it’s way to Berlin where it will host its final event prior to the EPT Grand Final, set to begin May 6 in picturesque Monte Carlo.

Davidi Kitai GPIMatching the exciting heads-up match-ups from last year’s EPT Berlin and Berlin High Roller events will certainly be tough to do.  In the Main Event, Belgian pro Davidi Kitai (GPI#61) punched his ticket into poker’s Triple Crown Club with his exhilarating performance, defeating Canadian Andrew Chen (GPI#218) to win his first EPT title.

Meanwhile, the High Roller final table was also taking place at one of the outer tables.  And with name players such as Viktor Blom, Tobias Reinkemeier and Marvin Rettenmaier eliminated early during final table play, superstars Bertrand Grospellier (GPI#4) and Chris Moorman (GPI#108) waged war for what seemed to be an eternity.

ElkY GPIIn the end, the Frenchman got the best of the Englishman and ElkY added another title to his already impressive poker resumé.  Interestingly enough, this was ElkY’s last victory on the live tournament circuit.

One quick side note, Moorman did have a deep run at the last stop on the European Poker Tour.  He final tabled EPT London last month.

This year’s event will also feature Main and High Roller events.  The € 5,000 + € 300 Main Event begins on Sunday and will ends next Saturday, April 27.  As for the High Roller event, it’s set to run on Thursday and Friday.  It will cost players € 10,000 + € 300 Main Event to play the High Roller.

There are also a few events already under way in Berlin.  The Berlin Cup, which began on Wednesday, will crown a Champion on Sunday.  Over € 880,000 is on line in that event.  The Final Table to that event has now been set as Russian Anatoly Filatov will carry the chip into FT play.  Former EPT Snowfest Champ Vladimir Geshkenbein and Dutch ace Pieter de Korver have also qualified for final table play:

Anatoly Filatov 5,880,000
Esben Guenther 3,750,000
Vladimir Geshkenbein 2,500,000
Jonas Garstick 1,815,000
Pieter de Korver 1,680,000
Gokhan Onal 1,120,000
Sebastian Gohr 850,000
Erik Scheidt 650,000

The Berlin Cup High Roller event is also currently underway.

In all, a total of 45 different events will be presented during the EPT Berlin Festival.
