Giesbrecht Makes Huge Move in CPT PoY Race

While we wait for a winner in the High Roller event at the CPT Spring Showdown, Sean Giesbrecht decided to make his move in the CPT Player of the Year race…

CALGARY SHOWDOWN

Canadian Poker Tour logoThe Canadian Poker Tour made its way to Calgary late last week for the presentation of the CPT Spring Showdown at the Grey Eagle Casino.

One man who has wasted no time in climbing the CPT Player of the Year race – powered by the Global Poker Index – is West Coast star Sean Giesbrecht (GPI#3315). Giesbrecht, who better know to most as SeanGPoker on Twitter, can usually be found playing some high stakes ring game somewhere in the world. His decision to visit Calgary certainly seems like it was a wise one.

Heading into the first event at the CPT Spring Showdown, Giesbrecht was nowhere near the top of the leaderboard for CPT supremacy. Just a few days later, he’s almost at the top. He started things off by finishing fourth in the 1st event, the $550 buy-in NLH Mega Stack. He would final table yet another event the very next day, finishing 6th in the NLH Turbo event.

Giesbrecht would save the best for last, scoring a 2nd place finish in the Main Event, earning $38,000 CAD for his efforts. The win places him in third position overall on the CPT Player of the Year charts, moving ahead of fellow Canadian pro Mike Leah (GPI#117). Here is a look at the current CPT PoY Top 10 rankings:

The CPT Spring Showdown Rankings also show Giesbrecht having a huge lead on his next opponent. Giesbrecht holds a 162.90 point lead on second place Raymond Chen. The top player following the Spring Showdown will win a VIP trip to Las Vegas for 2, accommodations at the ARIA Resort as well as a buy-in into a yet to be announced tournament.

The Canadian Poker Tour makes a return to Calgary for the Stampede Classic. The series is set to run between July 5th and 14th, 2014.
