GPI National Netherlands | Top 10

Netherlands FlagJust a few short weeks ago Casino Holland hosted the Master Classics of Poker, one of the most prestigious tournament poker series on the European calendar. Deemed as the National Championship, plenty of Dutch players enjoyed success on the home front including Noah Boeken (GPI#540) who would go on to win the Main Event.

Noah Boeken GPISurprisingly, Boeken, who has long been known to be one of the Netherlands best exports, doesn’t rank on the country’s Top 10, nor does former EPT London Champ Ruben Visser … or WSOP bracelet winner Vincent Van Der Fluit … or Team PokerStars SportsStar Fatima Moreira de Melo. Just goes to show how deep the talent pool is in the Netherlands!

Here is the GPI National Top 10 for the Netherlands:

#10 | Joep van den Bijgaart

Joep van den Bijgaart GPIThe soon-to-bet 27 year old’s first cash on the live tournament circuit came back in 2007 where he would finish seventh in a side event at the Dom Classics in Amsterdam. Since then, van den Bijgaart went on to collect several prolific cashes including a € 100,000 score finishing in seventh position at EPT Berlin in 2011.

More recently, van den Bijgaart cashed twice at the Master Classics of Poker: he finished 19th in the Main Event and placed fourth in the High Roller event, collecting over 36K for his work during the series.

GPI#457, Career High!

#9 | Daniel Reijmer

Daniel Reijmer broke onto the poker scene back in 2010 when he cashed in a side event at EPT Snowfest. He would follow that up a few months later with a 25th place finish in the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event.

So far in 2013, Reijmer has collected three Main Event scores on the European Poker Tour: 38th at EPT Berlin, 94th at EPT Barcelona and 60th at EPT London.

GPI#434, Highest #126

#8 | Michiel Brummelhuis

Michiel Brummelhuis GPIMichiel Brummelhuis rose to stardom this summer when he became the first Dutch player to ever final table the WSOP Main Event … he would return for the November Nine to finally finish in seventh position. His accomplishment was so important that the start of the Master Classics of Poker was delayed this year in order to not interfere with Brummelhuis’ November Nine run.

Brummelhuis was certainly busy this summer. Not only did he final table the Main Event, he and his partner welcomed their first child into the world in between qualifying for the FT in July and playing in November.

His 2013 season also includes a 27th place finish at EPT Berlin as well as a 26th place finish at the Master Classics of Poker.

GPI#345, Highest #343

#7 | Mateusz Moolhuizen

Not a bad start to a poker career! Moolhuizen’s first cash was a huge € 117,000 score at Unibet Open Malta as the Dutch pro would survive a 293 player field to win the tournament, right out of the gate!

After a quiet 2012 season on the live tournament circuit, Moolhuizen has come back with a vengeance in 2013. His career year includes two victory in side events at the bwin WPT Merit Cyprus Classic and at the Master Classics of Poker as well several Top 10 finishes including a runner-up finish at Unibet Open Troia and a 16th place finish at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo.

GPI#293, Career High!

#6 | Florens Feenstra

Feenstra certainly loves the Master Classics of Poker. He has collected wins at the Festival for the past two seasons. In 2012, Feenstra won the High Roller event for € 148,000 … he followed that up this year with a win in the € 1,500 NLH Re-Entry event, adding € 153,689 to his career totals.

Most recently, Feenstra placed 11th at the Caribbean Poker Tour event in beautiful St. Maarten.

GPI#255, Career High!

#5 | Danyel “David” Boyaciyan

Danyel “David” Boyaciyan simply cannot wait for EPT Prague to arrive. Two of his three best results have come at EPT Prague, in the past two seasons! That’s right, back-to-back final tables for Boyaciyan in Prague … runner-up to Martin Finger in 2011 and a third place finish in 2012. Will first place be next? We’ll find out later this month!

Boyaciyan’s other big career score came in 2011 at – you guessed it – the Master Classics of Poker where he won the € 5,000 buy-in Dutch Open for over 380K … his career earnings have crossed the 1.8M mark.

GPI#241, Highest #81

#4 | Marcel Luske

Marcel Luske GPIOne of the stars of the poker boom, The Flying Dutchman needs no introduction. Luske has stood the test of time and is still a serious contender, especially in mixed-game events.

Luske has collected four wins on tour so far this season in H.O.R.S.E. and 8-Game Mix, both at the PCA, and PLO and Seven Card Stud at EPT Berlin. Luske has earned over 230K USD in 2013, his best on the live tournament circuit in the past five years.

Despite never winning a WSOP bracelet, Luske has had a ton of close calls including ten Top 10 finishes, a total of 27 WSOP cashes and 1.3M USD in earnings.

GPI#235, Highest #234

#3 | Tobias Peters

Tobias Peters GPISo far, so good in 2013 for the Dutch pro! Peters’ season is already the best of his career. A total of 13 cashes so far this year. And although he doesn’t have that one big score for the season, he has been very consistent.

His highlight victory this year came at the ACFPoker Tour stop at WPT National Brussels in Belgium. Peters earned € 21,800 for the W.

Peters also collected three cashes at the bwin WPT Merit Cyprus Classic and cashed twice at the 44th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

GPI#208, Career High!

#2 | Govert Metaal

Govert Metaal GPIOne of the most consistent poker players on the live tournament circuit for years now, Metaal is closing in on another 200K USD season. Metaal is coming off a runner-up finish in the Master Classics of Poker High Roller event, finishing second only to Bryn Kenney.

Metaal’s best cash came in the Bahamas in 2011. Metaal final tabled the 25K High Roller event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, finishing fifth for $240,470 USD.

GPI#157, Highest #23

#1 | Paul Berende

Paul Berende GPIOne of the most popular selections for Fantasy Poker Managers, Berende remains the Netherlands’ best shot at poker glory. Although he currently ranks 109 on the Global Poker Index, Berende has spent most of the 2013 season inside the Top 100.

Berende’s 2013 peak came after his runner-up finish at WPT Baden in Austria. He has 13 total cashes in 2013 with nine of those Top 10 finishes. Berende’s top career cash came back in 2010 where he finished fifth in the 25K High Roller event at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo. Berende would go on to collect € 191,200 for the big score.

GPI#109, Highest #47
