January 2014 GPI Player of the Month: Dominik Panka

Congratulations go out to Dominik Panka – Global Poker Index Player of the Month for the month of January 2014:

PANKA SWOOPS IN FOR THE WIN

GPI PoM LogoDespite starting the 2014 season by winning the PCA Main Event, Dominik Panka (GPI#369) would not begin the year ranked #1 on the 2014 Global Poker Index Player of the Year leaderboard. The young man from Brzesc, Poland came out of nowhere to win at the PCA and capture the 1.4M USD first prize.

But it wasn’t until his second big win of the year – the High Roller event at EPT Deauville – that Panka would swoop in to take the lead in the GPI PoY race early in the 2014 campaign. Ending the month at the top of the PoY rankings automatically gives Panka the title of GPI Player of the Month for January 2014. Congratulations go out to Domink!

SELBST IS RUNNER-UP

Vanessa Selbst GPIVanessa Selbst (GPI#6) is this month’s runner-up. Just like Panka, Selbst started off the season by running strong at the 2014 PCA. Although Selbst wouldn’t win an event in the Bahamas, she would collect a pair of 3rd place finishes in the High Roller and Super High Roller events. Selbst would also cash in the Main Event and leave the Atlantis Resort with over 1.4M USD in earnings to her credit.

Selbst would move on to Atlantic City to play in the WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open in hopes to continue on her hot run at Borgata – where she finished 2nd at the WPT Borgata Poker Open a few months prior. Unfortunately, a repeat performance was not meant to be, Selbst would be eliminated during Day 1B play.
