Friday Night Challenge Hold'em |

In 2009 Steve walked away from the longest final table in World Poker Tour history with a prize of over 1 million dollars. Taking first place in the Bay 101 Shooting Star event was his first major tournament win.
Brecher’s preferred game is NL A-5 Low Ball with a Joker. He took up NLH in 1993 as he planned for his second career as a professional poker player. Brecher retired from a successful career as a computer programmer to study and play poker full time and now regularly finishes in the money. Brecher, also known as “Brec”, shows that you don’t have to start as a kid to have a successful career as a poker professional.
Brecher first cashed in 1994, winning $3,810 from a first place finish in a $100 Friday Night Challenge Hold’em tournament in Reno. He continued to play and cash for the next 10 years, hitting his first six-figure payout of $232,862 at the WPT’s $25,000 NLH season ending Championship. He made the final table and went out in 6th place.
In 2005 Brecher’s career hit a new high while visiting the East Coast. He took 3rd place and a $218,250 prize in the $10,000 NLH United States Poker Championship event in Atlantic City. Since then, Steve has mixed good years with bad, winning no tournament money in 2006 and finishing in the money in two WPT tournaments without reaching the final table in 2007. A 52nd place finish in 2008 in the 39th World Series of Poker $5000 NLH event won him $11,681.
The Bay 101 Shooting Star main event made 2009 a very good year for Brecher. He entered the televised final table with the chip lead over the other players. Brecher ended up head to head with Kathy Liebert. The chips went back and forth until 4:30 in the morning which made it the lengthiest final table in WPT history. Brecher walked away with the $1,025,500 first place prize after beating the more experienced Liebert.
Since his big win Brecher continues to place in the money in major tournaments around the world. In 2009 Brecher took another fruitful trip to the East Coast. He placed eighth in the WPT NLH main event at Foxwoods and earned $99,641. Back on the West coast a fourth place finish at the Regional Championship in San Diego brought his yearly winnings for 2011 to more than $100,000.
When not at the poker table, “Brec” lives in Palo Alto, California. There he enjoys hiking, acting and flying his personal plane.
