Phil Galfond: Think like a Champion
If you’re reading this and want to know what it takes to become a highly ranked player on the Global Poker Index then listen carefully.
Having made his name as one of the best poker players in the world, Phil Galfond is now also highly respected as a coach.
Indeed, having just launched a new training site, Runitonce.com, Phil’s advice seems to resonant with aspiring players more than anyone else’s.
However, for Phil, his route to the top wasn’t a combination of natural talent and luck, it was about hard work as he recently explained to Jared Tendler.
Yesterday mental game expert spoke to Phil and uncovered a bit about how he learns and what’s made him the player his is today.
For anyone wanting to break into the GPI’s top ranks, this interview is well worth a listen. Indeed, if you can live by Phil’s ethos that you enjoy learning about poker, you’ll not go far wrong.
“I have continuing to work at something that I’ve done well at and that has paid off.” – Phil Galfond.

Lederer Retains His $42 million Bankroll
Howard Lederer might be able to start thinking about his GPI ranking once again thanks to a settlement with the US Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York (SDNY).
Having faced the prospect of losing $42 million and his string of luxury properties, Lederer is now required to pay the authorities just a fraction of that for his role in the Full Tilt scandal.
Following the submission of a settlement plea to the SDNY, Lederer’s appeal was accepted and he now must forfeit just two of his properties, along with a classic car and $1.25 million.
On top of this are a number of other fines; however, the total cost to Lederer is a significant amount less than he was originally ordered to pay.
Such a financial let off may now allow him to return to tournament scene and boost his GPI score which has increased since his last result 697 days ago.
Hamilton Working in Aruba
Russ Hamilton, the man accused of defrauding poker players out of millions of dollars through UltimateBet’s superuser scandal, has been found working in Aruba.
Being reviled by the majority of the poker community, Russ went into hiding after the incident and many thought his time in the poker world was over.
However, after a phone call to the Occidental Grand Aruba Poker Room, it was discovered that Hamilton was both a poker consultant and share holder in the establishment.
The revelations has shocked many in the poker community and prompted a healthy forum debate about it.
