Benny Chen Wins Historic WSOP Bracelet

Worthy Winners Emerge on Day 7 of the WSOP

Three WSOP winners and a stacked final table marked a busy session inside the Rio earlier today.

Following a lull in the bracelet giving yesterday, today’s early action saw Benny Chen take down the first ever Millionaire Maker event.

The $1,500 tournament attracted 6,343 entries, which made it the largest single-day entry tournament in the WSOP’s history and, by the time the final chips had fallen, it was Chen who scooped the $1,198,780 top prize. Chen’s historic win came after he defeated Michael Bennington heads-up and once he’d finished posing for the cameras he was left to admire his first piece of WSOP silverware.

While Chen was celebrating his victory, Matt Waxman was able to survive a tough final table to claim his first WSOP bracelet. Although Amit Makhija held the chip lead going into the final session of Event #7, Waxman put in an assured performance and held firm as those around him fell.

After watching the likes of Jason Koon and Makhija hit the rail, Waxman managed to win a war of attrition against Eric Baldwin. After battling back-and-forth for seven hours, Waxman eventually wore down Baldwin to the point where he was forced to move all-in with [7h] [4h].

Following the shove, Waxman made the call with [Ah] [5s] and as the board rolled out: [Ad] [Th] [3s] [6s] [6c], the final pot was pushed his way, along with $305,952 and a shiny WSOP bracelet.

Completing the day’s trio of winners was Canadian, Michal Malm. After flipping a coin and deciding to play out one more level for the bracelet, Malm eventually managed to beat Steven Wolansky just before the session was brought to a close. That win gave Malm his first WSOP title and a healthy payday of $225,104.

While bracelets were being decided across the Rio, the final table of Event #9 was taking shape. Having attracted some of the game’s best players, the $3,000 shootout will resume tomorrow with just 10 players all looking to score the $299,486 top prize.

Indeed, amongst those vying for a piece of WSOP history is the likes of Tim West, David “Bakes” Baker, Cliff Josephy, Max Steinberg and Chris Klodnicki.
