Deadman’s WPT Win, Theo’s Recovery, Blom’s Big Win

Deadman Living it up in 2013

For Simon Deadman the beginning of 2013 has been a case “as you were” on the tournament circuit.

After taking down a GUKPT title and fishing second in a GSOP event at the tail end of 2012, Deadman continued his rich run of form this weekend with a victory in Dublin.

Having anted up alongside 237 players from around Europe, Deadman managed to stay away from the Guinness long enough to claim his first WPT title and €67,500.

Before the start of the tournament Deadman had managed to accrue $362,730 in prize money and 880 GPI ranking points.

However, after making his way past the likes of Jude Ainsworth,James Dempsey, Ben Carpenter and Andy Black, Simon increased his earnings to over $450,000 and will move to within touching distance of the UK’s top 10.

On route to victory Simon had to overcome some tough opposition at the final table. Having watched online pro Ben Carpenter (€16,750) hit the rail in fourth, Deadman proceeded to oust Sean Prendiville in third place (€30,250).

With the momentum on his side, Deadman managed to Joachim Haraldstad’s flush draw in a major pot to take control of the tournament.

With his opponent left with just a handful of chips, Deadman began applying the pressure until he eventually cracked Haraldstad (€47,100) to bank his biggest single pay day and his first WPT title.

Theo on the Mend

Just before Christmas we brought you some disturbing news involving European pro Theo Jorgensen and a gang of armed robbers.

Having watched the men break into his house, Theo was shot in the leg three times by the bandits before they made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Following the incident, Theo was taken to hospital and in the last few days he’s taken to Facebook to update people on his progress.

In a message to his followers, Theo wrote:

I will now officially NOT be making it till Bahamas this time around.  Healing on one wound is taking a little longer than expected. Besides that everything is good and I’m mobile again. The house is starting to look like Fort Knox, so the only way I can see us getting any unwanted visitors is if Tom Cruise decides to wire himself down the chimney. The alarm company is working on that one though.”

Although Theo won’t be making the trip to the Bahamas, the news is certainly positive and it looks like we’ll be seeing him back on the GPI points trail in the very near future.

Blom on Form in 2013

Since Viktor Blom announced he wouldn’t be defending his PCA Super High Roller title this year, we wondered what he’d be up to instead.

While he announced that he plans to play the forthcoming NBC Heads-Up Championship, the Swede has also managed to find some time to play online poker in 2013.

In fact, since the start of the year the heads-up specialist has managed to bank a staggering $2,443,311.

The mammoth haul is certainly impressive and should put him in a confident mood when the televised Heads-Up Championship kicks off on January 24th.
