EPT Deauville Latest, Thor Hansen’s Health Update, Grosvenor 25/25 Result

Day Takes Charge on Day 1A in Deauville

The opening session of EPT Deauville‘s Main Event got under way on Sunday and by the time the dust had settled it was Chris Day who held the slightest of chip leads.

Throughout the day a healthy stream of players took to the felt and by the time the registration desk closed the field had swollen to 234 hopefuls. Scanning the field a host of local talent could be seen grinding hard against a selection of travelling pros such as Eugene Katchalov and Marcin Horecki.

The early action was frantic thanks to many of the French amateurs adopting a typically loose style and as the action progressed the likes of David Vamplew, Arnaud Mattern and recent EPT winner, Dominik Panka hit the rail.

However, as the blinds increased and the session wore on, it Britain’s Day who profited from the early action enough that it allowed him to scoop 154,100 chips and finish atop of the daily leaderboard. That haul was just a single chip more than Jorma Nuutinenwho scooped 154,000 to finish second on the daily standings.

Overall Day 1A saw 100 players hit the rail and close with 134 hopefuls, including Barny Boatman (102,000), Niall Farrell (65,600), Dominik Nitsche (54,400), all still in with a chance of picking up some cash in the Main Event.

Day 1B kicked off earlier and at the time of writing more than 400 players had taken to the felt and leading the way after four levels was Timur Margolin with 90,000 chips.

Hansen’s Battle with Cancer

Despite being told that he has colorectal cancer and that his chances of living more than two years were slim, Thor Hansen has recently celebrated his two-year anniversary with cognac and coffee.

Announcing his health to the world via a Facebook post, Thor seems to have defied the odds and is now “feeling stronger than ever” thanks to the help of doctors and the support of the poker community.

Apparently the Norwegian pro has undergone 110 doses of chemo since his original diagnosis and the staff at Ullevaal Hospital have seen a massive improvement in his condition during that time.

Although Thor is by no means in the clear he’s fared better than anyone expected and that’s certainly a testament to his strength and typically jovial outlook on life.

Spencer Steals the Show in Sheffield

Grosvenor’s latest 25/25 came to a close on Sunday and standing victorious in the city of steel, Sheffield, was Alex Spencer.

The young grinder was able to stay strong and show his mettle over the course of two days as players from across the UK shot for glory in the £200 Main Event.

While many tried only a few could succeed and by the time a final table had formed it was Spencer who gradually took control. Indeed, his was able to ratchet up his dominance as players fell by the wayside and by the time he found himself heads-up with Michael Kossov, Spencer held a comfortable chip lead.

That haul was enough for Spencer to oust his opponent in a relatively short space of time after his A-T connected well enough with the 3s Jd Ah 9h 7c board to scoop the final pot, the latest 25/25 title and £13,150.

Grosvenor 25/25 Sheffield Final Result:

1st – £13,150 – Alex Spencer

2nd – £8,600 – Michael Kossov
