GPI 300 Update: L.A. Poker Classic Results Boost Scores

GuissemPhilip Gruissem (GPI#8 +6) returns to the Top Ten this week with a score gain of 162 points created by aging results. Gruissem finished 10th in the 2012 Macau High Stakes Challenge $258,000 Super High Roller which was previously excluded from his score by the five score cap in Period 1. It ages into Period 2 this week where he has open slots and is responsible for most of his score gain.

Mohsin Charania moves up 3 spots to GPI#14 after cashing at the L.A. Poker Classic. Charania was 32nd out of a field of 517 in the $10,000 NLHE Championship event. His new result replaces his score from the 2012 WSOP-Europe €3,000 Shootout event for a net gain of 96 points.

Micah Raskin (GPI#19 +2) returns to the Top Twenty with a 50 point net gain. Raskin also cashed at the LAPC, with a 3rd place finish in the $25,000 NLHE High Roller. That event was won by Rodger Johnson (GPI#152 +118) who has the largest jump in rank this week. Raskin’s new result replaces his score for his 5th place finish in the 2012 Partouche Poker Tour Grand Final €3,000 NLHE event.

Results from the L.A. Poker Classic Main Event

The results of the LAPC $10,000 NLHE Championship gave several players large boosts in rank and brought some new faces to the GPI 300. Runner-up Paul Volpe had one of the largest rank changes of the week, up 87 spots to GPI#79. Toby Lewis (GPI#21 +17) also made the final table and jumps up 17 spots landing just outside of the Top Twenty at GPI#21. Alexander Venovski (GPI#101 +81) and Noah Schwartz (GPI#42 +34) move up thanks to their respective 335 and 287 point gains for finishing in the top 20.

YaginumaJesse Yaginuma took 3rd place and makes his GPI 300 debut this week at GPI#213. David Tuthill (GPI#246) nearly made the final table finishing 8th and also joins the GPI Elite for the first time. Yaginuma and Tuthill are joined by fellow newcomers Aaron Massey, Trevor Pope, and Jesse Sylvia who also cashed in the $10,000 NLHE Championship. Massey and Pope each added two new results to their scores this week. Pope finished 8th in the LAPC $5,100 NLHE event and Massey additionally adds a win in the Chicago Poker Classic $5,000 Heads-Ups event to his score.

The GPI 300 also has four players returning who cashed in the LAPC Championship Event. Eric Froehlich earned 271 points for his 23rd place finish and returns at GPI#234. John Hennigan returns at GPI#267 after picking up 193 points for finishing 56th. Carlos Mortensen (GPI#280) and Ryan Eriquezzo (GPI#268) also return.

The Main Event of the Bay 101 Shooting Stars Main Event is inching closer to the money. Many GPI ranked players are still at the tables and likely to pick up points next week.
