GPI PROfile: Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald had all the eyes of the poker world on him earlier this week. McDonald was attempting to become the first poker player to win two titles on the European Poker Tour. We take a look at McDonald’s career path in this edition of the GPI PROfile:
DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK
It’s stunning to think that when McDonald won his very first million dollar prize on the live tournament circuit – back in 2008 at EPT Dortmund – he wasn’t even old enough to buy himself and his friends a celebratory drink in his hometown in Waterloo, where the minimum drinking age is 19 … even more incredible is the fact that by the age of 20, he had retired from the game of poker, before he was able to play in any tournament presented in the US.
But Timex would come back to the circuit and, at 24 years of age, is recognized as one of the game’s very best players. His recent runner-up finish in the 2014 PCA Main Event may have prevented him from becoming the first player to win two titles on the EPT but it did push his career winnings on the circuit to just under 6M USD.
Already off to a good start, McDonald will continue to fight and hopefully make 2014 the Year of Timex.
