GPI Tournament Report: Premier League, Rock ‘n’ Roll Poker, Borgata Fall, UKIPT, DSE + More

We take you to Montreal, Florida, Atlantic City, Nottingham, Las Vegas and France in this week’s GPI Tournament Recap:

partypoker PREMIER LEAGUE

Sorel Mizzi GPIThe partypoker Premier League was presented on North-American soil for the very first time last week as Montreal’s Playground Poker Club played host to some of the game’s biggest names.

Online pro Dan Colman (GPI#4086) and WPT One to Watch Jeff Gross (GPI#133) would finish tied for first following the four-heat “regular season” earning a direct entry to the final table. Sorel Mizzi (GPI#12), Brian Rast (GPI#370), Jason Koon (GPI#25) and Scott Seiver (GPI#15) would join Colman and Gross at the final table.

When all was said and done, the title would stay in Canada as Mizzi defeated Gross heads-up to pickup the extra $400,000 for the big win.

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL POKER OPEN

Matt Waxman GPIFlorida resident Matthew Waxman (GPI#181) scooped up another big score in the Sunshine State winning the WPT Regional Rock ‘n’ Roll Poker Open at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood. Waxman was featured in the latest edition of the GPI PROfile earlier today.

The tournament drew a bunch of other Florida standouts including fourth place finisher Darryll Fish (GPI#259) and Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi (GPI#63), who bubbled the final table.

BORGATA FALL OPEN

Kyle Bowker GPIRussell Crane (GPI#402) became the latest big winner at the Borgata in Atlantic City. Crane picked up the W at the Borgata Fall Poker Open, earning over 360K USD for his efforts.

Crane survived the charge from the 625-player field that included Kyle Bowker (GPI#388, pictured), John Holley (GPI#580) and Cliff Josephy (GPI#399), who all final tabled the event.

Other notables who cashed in the event include: WPT bestbet Jacksonville winner Michael Linster, Alexander Rocha, Michael Dentale, Amnon Filippi, Jake Schwartz, Jordan Cristos, Aaron Massey, John D’Agostino, Todd Terry and Nicholas Petrangelo.

UKIPT NOTTINGHAM

Christopher Brammer GPISome of Europe’s biggest names in the game made their way to Nottingham last weekend to play UKIPT Notthingham.

Ben Mayhew was the big winner, defeating Tony Salmon heads-up for the 6-max title. UK pros Ben Vinson (GPI#1071) and Sergio Aido (GPI#113) also final tabled the event.

Christopher Brammer (pictured, right), Simon Deadman, John Eames, Jason Wheeler, Mickey Petersen, Jack Ellwood, Dara O’Kearney and the Devilfish, Dave Ulliott all cashed in the event.

Jon Spinks GPIJon Spinks (GPI#1008, pictured) won the High Roller event, defeating Brammer heads-up. Petersen, Dermot Blain, Tom Middleton and Craig McCorkell also cashed in the High Roller.

VENETIAN DSE IV

Joey Weissman GPIA blast from the past! Former WSOP and WPT standout James Van Alstyne (GPI#1379) won the Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza IV $2,500 Main Event last week, defeating the 238-player field. Van Alstyne is just a few dollars shy from reaching the 4M USD mark for his career.

Van Alstyne defeated Mark Darner (GPI#410) heads-up. WSOP bracelet winner Joey Weissman (GPI#506, pictured) finished third in the event while GPI300 member Ryan Welch (GPI#258) earned a Top 10 finish.

Other notables who cashed in the event include: Patrick Mahoney, Erica Schoenberg, Kenna James, recent HPT Las Vegas winner Richard Lyndaker, Joseph Cheong, Doug Lee and Michael Benvenuti.

BPT DEEPSTACK

Casino Barriere EnghienNicolas Faure (GPI#573) won the inaugural BPT Deepstack Masters event as the Barrière Poker Tour got a facelift with a new deepstack format.

Moroccan pro Omar Lakhdari (GPI#1107) final tabled the event, finishing in eighth position.

The € 500 Main Event was won by Nicolas Le Floch (GPI#1182). Le Floch took home € 33,200 for his efforts.

ACF HOLD’EM SERIES

Franck Kalfon GPIFrench actor and poker player Julien Sitbon won the ACF Hold’em Series Main Event over the weekend, defeating Edouard Bonnefous (GPI#5740) heads-up.

“Special Agent” Franck Kalfon (GPI#842) finished third in the event that was presented at the prestigious Aviation Club de France in Paris.
