Kallio Claims GSOP Gold
Despite never having tested his skills at a live tournament table, Joui Kallio put on a performance worthy of a champion on Saturday.
After grinding for four days and overcoming some of Europe’s toughest grinders, including Manig Loeser and Thomas Butzhammer, Kallio pocketed €65,130 after winning GSOP Vienna.
The Finnish player’s win came after he managed eliminate Bjorn Berner and Karel Kratochvil in a frantic finish.
Having all agreed to reduce the blind levels to 15 minute increments, Kallio managed to take out Berner soon after the change.
That left Kallio within touching distance of Kratochvil and thanks to a quick double up he soon took the lead.
The final hand saw Kratochvil move all-in with [Th] [6h] and Kallio make the call with [Jc] [Td].
Despite getting a slice of luck on the [Qd] [6s] [Ah] flop, Kratochvil soon lost his stack after the [8h] and [9d] gave Kallio a backdoor straight.
That pot sealed the deal for Kallio and earned him the title and his largest win to-date.

UKIPT Cork Nears Finale
While Joui Kallio was collecting his winner’s cheque, the final few players were busy making their bid for UKIPT Cork’s final table.
Having whittled its way down from a starting field of 387, yesterday’s action saw 33 hopefuls stand just a few pots away from the final table.
At the start of the day it was Thomas Finneran and Pawel Keller leading the way and that’s how it stayed (almost).
While the two players retained their dominant stacks at the close of play, it was Keller who managed to finish on top with 1,524,000 ahead of Finneran’s 1,415,000 haul.
The final flurry of activity during yesterday’s session saw one time chip leader Pascal Tongi make it through with 289,000 chips, as well as Deborah Worley-Roberts (795,000), Stephen McGrath (610,000), Alexander Rhys-Davies (457,000) Fridjon Thordarson (336,000) and Nicholas Newport(195,000).
Cates and Schwartz Join Premier League
The roster for Party Poker’s Premier League event in March received a further boost, today, thanks to the addition of Luke Schwartz and Daniel Cates.
The infamous cash game stars are the latest additions to the all-star line-up which is set to clash between March 17th and 23rd.
The two pros will join Premier League veterans Scott Seiver, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Laak, Tony G and tournament newcomer, Antonio Esfandiari.
